Hardy's Place

...is a narrative that chronicles life stories by Katherine B. Kingsley. It began as a tribute to her once in a lifetime dog, Hardy, who tragically passed away in the summer of 2010. It has evolved into a place for Katherine to express her love for animals, travel, education, and the world. Many of the entries are intended to be assembled into a memoir, which she hopes to publish someday.

BIO

Katherine lives in Northern California with her husband, Brad, and their son, Nate. They share their home with a Miniature Schnauzer named Roxie, a Yorkshire Terrier named Bentley, and several egg laying hens in various stages of development.

The Hens

The original four of Katherine's flock. From left to right, they are: Flora, Fauna (Blue Cochin hens), Calypso, and Celeste (Wellsummer hens).

"In terms of production, we've had great success with the Wellsummer hens. They produce an egg a day during spring, summer, and fall. In the kitchen we enjoy frying up the Cochin eggs for breakfast, although these hens go broody a lot and don't lay as many eggs. Fauna was the best layer of our Cochins, and my favorite hen. It was a great loss when she was taken down by a coyote."

Hardy the Great!
In good times
and bad, you were
there by my side.
Forever
I will miss you
and the friendship
we had.
Rest in peace
dear friend, never
to be forgotten.
